A deputy police commissioner in Mount Vernon, New York, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and other offenses for allegedly serving as the getaway driver for her son in a gang-related shooting in the Bronx.

Jennifer Lackard, a deputy commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, and her son, Chase Lackard, 20, were arrested at their home on Tuesday morning, according to the New York Post. Authorities stated that Chase is accused of firing shots at rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court in late June. Police sources told the Post that after the shooting, Chase ran to his mother, who was in her car, and she then sped away from the scene.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Both Jennifer and Chase Lackard have been charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy, and reckless endangerment.

The Mount Vernon Police Department announced Tuesday that Jennifer Lackard had been terminated from her position, effective immediately. The department stated on social media that the allegations were unrelated to her duties and did not stem from her conduct or responsibilities within the department.

This is not the first law enforcement encounter for Chase Lackard. He was previously shot by police in 2024 after allegedly displaying a weapon during an altercation. In 2023, he was shot by three other individuals during a dispute on a bus. The Post reported that Chase is allegedly a member of the "Slutty Gang."
