Jamey Carney, 43, a mother from Westchester County, was found deceased in her rented home in Killarney, Ireland, just three days after posting a picture on social media with Ahmad Alsaqer, 28. Alsaqer, an asylum seeker who arrived in Ireland in 2024, is considered a person of interest in Carney's death.
The photo, shared on July 4th, showed Carney and Alsaqer posing together with an AI-generated Times Square backdrop. Carney was wearing a New York Knicks t-shirt, and Alsaqer a New York Giants one. The caption read, “Happy 4th y’all.”
Carney's 13-year-old daughter discovered her mother's body hidden under a cover in their home. Police sources indicated that Alsaqer allegedly beat Carney to death before leaving Killarney on a bus bound for Dublin and catching a flight to Istanbul. Investigators are reportedly looking into Alsaqer's potential contacts in Turkey and France, where he had previously resided, and also possibly the United Kingdom.
Carney, who worked in the healthcare industry, reportedly met Alsaqer approximately 18 months prior, shortly after he entered Ireland. She had identified herself as a supporter of the pro-Palestinian cause and shared videos on social media with Alsaqer at rallies for the movement in Ireland, both wearing keffiyehs.
Alsaqer also appeared in numerous Instagram posts with Carney, with captions such as, “Dating an Arab be like..,” “I’m his flower/warda and he’s my moon/qamar,” and “learning Arabic.”
Irish police have confirmed Alsaqer has left the country and may be headed to Jordan or Syria from Turkey, according to the Irish Examiner. Police are investigating reports of a disturbance at Carney's residence on the evening before her estimated time of death. Her body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon after her daughter alerted a family friend who subsequently contacted the authorities. Police sources described the scene as having blood in the room and indicated Carney suffered severe head injuries from a prolonged assault.
