A New York woman who relocated to Ireland was found dead in her home in Killarney, and authorities are seeking a Middle Eastern asylum seeker who reportedly met the victim at an anti-Israel protest.

Jamey Carney, 43, was discovered on Tuesday by her 13-year-old daughter at their rented home. Police are investigating reports of a loud argument at the residence the night before. Carney, who moved to Ireland from Westchester County five years ago, was reportedly beaten to death.

The person of significant interest is a 28-year-old migrant who applied for asylum in Ireland in 2024, according to police, who have not publicly named him. Sources indicate that Carney and the suspect knew each other for about 18 months, having met at a pro-Palestine demonstration. Carney had previously posted videos of herself at anti-Israel rallies.

"The feeling is that she may have met this individual at an anti-war demonstration and kept in contact over the last number of months," a police source told the Irish Sun.

Authorities have issued alerts at ports and airports amid concerns that the suspect may have already left the country. Investigators are considering the possibility that he may have traveled from Killarney to Dublin and then taken a flight to Istanbul. Police are also focusing on contacts the suspect has in Turkey and France, where he had previously spent time.

The circumstances of his potential departure are unclear, particularly as he would likely not have had access to his passport due to his ongoing asylum application. Carney's daughter, who was present in the house at the time of the incident, alerted a family friend, and is now being supported by relatives.

Carney was involved in local community groups and pro-Palestine advocacy in Ireland. Her family is reportedly traveling from the United States to Ireland. Local councillor Martin Grady, a friend of Carney's, described the incident as an "appalling tragedy."
