Amy J. Steadman, 64, the grandmother accused of poisoning her daughter and four grandchildren before taking her own life, was remembered in a brief, two-sentence obituary. The notice from New Comer Creations and Funerals in Albany stated, “Amy J. Steadman, 64, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Per the request of the family, services were held privately.” No photograph accompanied the obituary.

Steadman, her daughter Sarah Myers, 44, and four grandchildren—Harper Harmon, 13, Hudson Harmon, 11, Gavin Harmon, 10, and Gracelynn Harmon, 10—were discovered deceased at Steadman’s home in Mechanicville, New York, following a police welfare check. A handwritten note found at the scene "strongly suggests" Steadman administered poison, according to Mechanicville Chief of Police Bill Rabbitt. Investigators recovered evidence indicating intentional poisoning with prescription and over-the-counter medications, though toxicology tests are pending.

Sources indicated that one of the children also sustained stab wounds, and that the motive may have stemmed from a custody dispute. The children's father, Brady Harmon, was reportedly in a custody battle with Myers and had planned to take the children to Utah for the summer. Harmon stated to Fox News that he had previously expressed concerns about the children's safety, describing the situation as "horrendous" and asserting, "The system is broken, it takes way too long to get anything done."
