NY Governor 'Excited' About Potential Democratic Investigations of Trump

New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that she is "excited" by the prospect of a Democratic-controlled Congress using investigations and subpoenas to halt President Donald Trump's agenda. Hochul articulated this view in comments to Politico, discussing the potential for Democrats to regain control of both the House and the Senate in the upcoming elections.

"We are hoping for the House, but to get the Senate on top of it, next level, game-changing, extraordinary," Hochul said, according to the report. "So, I'm excited about this. When you talk about Trump's next two years with that Democratic House and Senate, hey, guess what? There's investigations, there's hearings, there's subpoenas, there's questioning. We're putting the media spotlight on everything he's doing and trying to stop his 'flood the zone' strategy of doing so much bad stuff in such a short time that you can't even keep track of it."

She elaborated that such oversight would involve "congressional oversight committees and subcommittees and commissions," which she believes would "tie things up to at least not that we want to stop the workings of the good part of government, but stop the corruption, stop the abuse and things that he's getting away with now."

Despite her critical stance on Trump's agenda, Hochul also expressed openness to collaboration on certain projects. She mentioned her desire to "build nuclear" power in New York and presented a proposal to the president to expedite the process.

The White House, in response, characterized Democrats' focus as an agenda of "obstruction" and a "decade-long witch hunt against President Trump." A spokesperson stated, "This administration and commonsense Republicans will continue to secure our borders, restore law and order, putting more money back into the pockets of hard-working Americans, and deliver wins for the American people."

David Laska, communications director for the New York Republican State Committee, criticized Hochul for her remarks, suggesting she is prioritizing thwarting the president's agenda over issues in New York. "Kathy Hochul should worry less about President Trump and more about the fact that New York continues to lead the nation in outmigration because she keeps us the most taxed, least affordable, least free state in the nation," Laska said.

Hochul is currently running for re-election and faces Republican nominee Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County Executive.
