Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman on Tuesday evening decried the primary victories of candidates endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, characterizing the outcomes as a failure of Gov. Kathy Hochul's leadership and an indication of the Democratic Party's leftward shift.
Blakeman, a Republican gubernatorial hopeful, extended an invitation to moderate Democrats, urging them to join his campaign. "I’m asking common sense Democrats to join our cause to save New York from the socialist, anti-American Communists and restore normalcy to our state," Blakeman stated.
Mamdani's slate of progressive candidates, including Darializa Avila Chevalier, secured wins against moderate Democrats in several primary contests. These victories have amplified concerns among establishment Democrats regarding the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America faction within the party.
Blakeman specifically criticized Hochul's leadership, stating, "The Hochul-Mamdani lunatic wing of the Democrat Party has made it less affordable and less safe to live in New York."
