Nutritionist Shares Four-Ingredient Breakfast for Weight Loss

A nutritionist from Melbourne has detailed a four-ingredient breakfast designed to promote satiety and aid in weight loss, suggesting it can help individuals lose up to 10kg by the end of 2026. Angela Borges, who has assisted numerous women in losing significant weight without drastic dietary restrictions, emphasizes the importance of 'eating smarter' rather than resorting to excessive exercise or overly complicated meal plans.

Borges's recommended breakfast bowl takes approximately three minutes to prepare and consists of sweetened almond milk, a scoop of protein powder, high-protein granola or cereal, and fresh blueberries. She advocates for this combination due to its ease of preparation and its ability to keep hunger at bay for up to four hours. The meal provides a substantial protein hit from the powder, fiber and volume from the blueberries, and energy from the granola or cereal, making it a satisfying and convenient option for busy mornings.

"When you're a busy woman trying to lose weight, you don't need another complicated recipe or meal that requires lots of prep," Borges stated. "The protein powder gives you a good hit of protein, the blueberries provide fibre and volume, and the granola or cereal adds carbohydrates for energy and makes the meal enjoyable."

The nutritionist explained that the effectiveness of the breakfast lies in its calorie-friendliness and its filling nature, which helps curb cravings. The meal contains over 30 grams of protein and fiber, key components for sustained fullness. Borges also highlighted that consistency is crucial for weight loss, and a quick, easy breakfast supports this by being realistic for hectic schedules.

Borges, who previously lost 11kg in 2018 after shifting her focus from restrictive dieting and intense exercise to a more balanced approach, noted that this breakfast is part of a larger strategy. Successful weight loss, she explained, involves creating overall habits that support a calorie deficit over time, such as balanced meals, appropriate portions, adequate protein and fiber, regular movement, sufficient sleep, and managing common pitfalls like afternoon grazing or defaulting to takeout when stressed.

She cautioned against common mistakes, such as having overly small breakfast portions in an attempt to save calories, or skipping breakfast altogether. These habits can lead to increased hunger later in the day and poorer food choices. Similarly, opting for items like plain toast or muffins without sufficient protein or fiber may not provide lasting satisfaction.

Borges encourages building meals around protein, fiber, and enjoyable foods, asserting that weight loss does not necessitate eating less, but rather eating meals that promote satisfaction while aligning with goals.

She offered several other quick and easy breakfast options for weight loss:

  • Greek yogurt with berries and high-protein granola
  • Scrambled eggs and egg whites on sourdough with avocado
  • Overnight oats made with Greek yogurt or protein powder, berries, and chia seeds
  • Sourdough topped with cottage cheese, avocado, and eggs
  • Weet-Bix with high-protein milk, Greek yogurt, and berries

Borges advised against breakfasts that merely 'look healthy' but lack the necessary protein and fiber, as they may leave individuals hungry shortly after consumption. A truly effective breakfast for weight loss, she concluded, should be substantial enough to keep a person satisfied for three to four hours and be easy to incorporate into a busy lifestyle.
