Nutritionist Highlights Brazil Nuts for Hair Health

Nutritionist Gabriela Peacock has emphasized the significant benefits of Brazil nuts, particularly their high selenium content, which is crucial for hair health. Speaking on the podcast "Don't Judge Me" with businesswoman Lauren Cowell, Peacock explained that selenium acts as a powerful antioxidant and is essential for normal hair growth.

Peacock, founder of the supplement brand GP Nutrition and a qualified nutritional therapist with clients including Princess Beatrice, noted that while Brazil nuts are beneficial, moderation is key. A single Brazil nut can provide the daily recommended intake of selenium, and consuming too many could paradoxically lead to hair loss. The general advice is to limit intake to one to three nuts per day.

Beyond Brazil nuts, Peacock also praised Cowell's general appreciation for nuts, highlighting their protein content. "As we get older, we need more protein," Peacock stated, explaining that protein is vital for bodily maintenance and rejuvenation. She added that protein is a macronutrient many people lack and that nuts offer a valuable vegan protein source. Walnuts, in particular, were noted for their contribution to cognitive function.

During the podcast episode, Cowell, who is married to X Factor judge Simon Cowell, also shared personal insights. She confessed to a fondness for Lucky Charms cereal and revealed that she gave up both alcohol and smoking approximately 18 months prior to the recording. Cowell also expressed a sense of liberation in nearing the age of 50, stating she no longer worries about what others think.
