Nutritionist Advocates for Brazil Nuts' Benefits, Citing Selenium for Hair Health
Gabriela Peacock discusses the advantages of Brazil nuts and other protein-rich foods during a podcast appearance with Lauren Cowell.
Nutritionist Gabriela Peacock highlighted the benefits of Brazil nuts, particularly their high selenium content, during a recent episode of the podcast "Don't Judge Me." Peacock, a nutritional therapist whose clients include Princess Beatrice and who founded the supplement brand GP Nutrition, discussed eating habits with businesswoman Lauren Cowell.
Peacock noted that Brazil nuts are an excellent source of selenium, an essential mineral that acts as a potent antioxidant and is crucial for normal hair growth. However, she cautioned that moderation is key, as consuming too many Brazil nuts can lead to hair loss. Experts advise eating only one to three Brazil nuts per day, as a single nut can fulfill the daily selenium requirement.
Peacock also praised Cowell's general consumption of nuts, emphasizing their protein content. "As we get older, we need more protein," Peacock stated. "All the maintenance within our body rejuvenates with it, so it's absolutely essential."
She identified protein as a macronutrient that many people lack. Peacock pointed out that nuts, such as walnuts, offer a vegan source of protein and can also contribute to cognitive function.
In other segments of the podcast episode, Cowell revealed her enjoyment of Lucky Charms cereal and shared that she gave up both alcohol and smoking approximately 18 months prior. Nearing 50, Cowell stated that a significant personal gain is no longer caring about the opinions of others.
