A psychiatric nurse practitioner testified Tuesday that she suspected Lindsay Clancy, currently on trial for the murders of her three children, may have had undiagnosed bipolar disorder.
Rebecca Jollotta, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, stated that she observed what she believed to be manic symptoms in Clancy and that the mother of three appeared to be in a "mixed state presentation." Jollotta testified that she strongly recommended a partial hospitalization program for Clancy in a message exchange on December 12, 2022.
During a December 2022 appointment attended by Clancy and her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, Jollotta said she suggested that Lindsay Clancy might have bipolar disorder. According to Jollotta, Patrick Clancy immediately rejected this notion, stating, "My wife is not bipolar." Lindsay Clancy reportedly remained silent during the conversation.
Lindsay Clancy, 36, is accused of killing her children Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at their Massachusetts home in January 2023. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Her defense has indicated they plan to argue that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the deaths.
