Nurse Credits Ozempic for Third Pregnancy After Infertility Diagnosis

Areli Ruiz, a 35-year-old nurse from Merced, California, has experienced a dramatic shift in her fertility journey, becoming pregnant with her third child in two years after being diagnosed with infertility. Ruiz and her husband, Jose Ruiz, had been trying to conceive for five years without success before seeking medical advice.

After undergoing infertility treatments that were unsuccessful, Ruiz was diagnosed with secondary infertility in October 2022. She decided to focus on improving her overall health, believing inflammation might be a contributing factor. Drawing on her nursing knowledge, she began taking Ozempic, a GLP-1 medication, in early 2023. She also noted that a small amount of weight loss would be beneficial.

Ruiz reported feeling better on the medication, experiencing reduced inflammation and decreased hunger and stress. She started tracking her ovulation, and in September 2023, discovered she was pregnant. Her first child, a daughter, was born in April 2024. Ruiz stopped taking Ozempic during her pregnancy, as it is not recommended for use while carrying a baby.

Shortly after giving birth, Ruiz decided to resume taking Ozempic to attempt conception again. Within six months, she was pregnant for the second time, welcoming a son in December 2025. Ruiz is now eight months pregnant with her third child, due in October 2026. She shared that she conceived the third time just eight weeks after giving birth.

Ruiz has expressed joy in raising children so close in age and has been at home with them since her first pregnancy. She plans to continue using Ozempic after her current baby is born and is encouraging other women facing infertility to consider GLP-1 medications. She stated that she has already purchased more Ozempic in anticipation of her upcoming birth and hopes to have more children if possible.
