Nuremberg Airport Shuts Down Operations Amid Aviation Emergency
Eurofighter jets escorted a flight from Greece before it landed safely; investigations are ongoing.
Nuremberg Airport in Germany suspended flight operations Tuesday due to an aviation emergency, the airport announced on its website.
Details regarding the specific cause of the emergency were not immediately provided, with the airport stating that further information would be released later. A police source indicated to German outlet Bild that authorities were investigating a potential in-flight emergency, though this remained unconfirmed.
Airport operations were halted shortly before the scheduled landing of a flight originating from the Greek island of Corfu. The aircraft, a Corendon Airlines plane, was slated to land at 12:15 p.m. local time and touched down safely at 12:16 p.m., according to Flightradar24 data.
An airport spokesperson confirmed that Eurofighter jets had escorted the plane from Corfu prior to its landing. The Mittelfranken police force stated on X, formerly Twitter, "We received a report of an unclear air emergency. In the meantime, the aircraft has landed safely in Nuremberg. Investigations into the cause are currently underway."
