NSW Police Officer Faces Child Abuse Material and Weapons Charges

A police constable in New South Wales, Australia, has been charged with accessing child abuse material and possessing prohibited weapons and ammunition. The 22-year-old officer, attached to the North West Metropolitan Region, was arrested after detectives executed a search warrant at a Sydney home last week.

During the search, officers allegedly seized digital devices, a gel blaster, butterfly knives, and ammunition. The constable was subsequently taken to Ryde Police Station and charged with using a carriage service to access child abuse material, possessing ammunition without a license, possessing an unauthorized pistol, and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.

He was refused bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court on Friday. His employment status with NSW Police is currently under review as inquiries into the matter continue. This case follows a recent incident where another NSW Police officer pleaded guilty to possessing and transmitting child abuse material.
