NRLW Star Accuses Ex-Partner of Assaults Weeks After Her Own Conviction

In a surprising development in the NRLW, former New South Wales captain Maddie Studdon has accused her ex-partner, Bree Brown, of committing multiple violent assaults. This accusation comes just weeks after Studdon herself was convicted of abusing the same woman.

Studdon, who previously captained NSW, alleges that Brown attacked her violently on several occasions. However, Brown's defense team has suggested that a crucial piece of context may be absent from the prosecution's case. A judge appeared to acknowledge this point during proceedings.

Studdon went to the police on February 19, claiming that Brown, a real estate agent, had assaulted her multiple times between 2023 and the previous year. Brown first appeared in court the day after Studdon filed her domestic violence allegations. Initially, police had refused bail for Brown, but a judge later granted it.

Brown has no prior criminal convictions and had never been charged with an offense before these allegations.

In a separate case, Studdon herself was arrested on January 13 following a disturbance outside Brown's home. Studdon, who last played for the Dragons in 2025 and has represented Australia and NSW, narrowly avoided jail time. The judge in her case noted that the domestic violence incidents Studdon was convicted of would have left Brown "terrified."

During Brown's court appearance, she was accompanied by her parents and several supporters. The court heard mock-ups of text messages Studdon had allegedly sent to a friend, which the friend denied were related to drugs.
