Nottingham Police Officer Stable After Being Shot Responding to Suspicious Activity
The officer, who was shot early Sunday morning, is in the hospital and with his family, according to the city's police and crime commissioner.
A Nottinghamshire Police officer is in stable condition at the hospital and with his family after being shot while responding to suspicious activity, Nottingham's Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden stated on Monday. The officer was shot shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday after approaching two individuals acting suspiciously in Angel Row.
Godden commended the officer's bravery and noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting. A search continues for the two suspects, a man and a woman, who fled the scene. The commissioner indicated that the officer's injuries are "not life-threatening – it's most likely to be life-altering."
"This officer was going to speak to two individuals who were acting suspiciously, and this happened," Godden said, highlighting the inherent dangers faced by police officers. He added that it is too early to determine the officer's potential return to work, as medical updates are still being gathered.
