Notre Dame Campus Locked Down Amid Search for Suspect After Campus Shooting

The University of Notre Dame experienced a lockdown on Saturday as law enforcement searched for a suspect following reports of gunfire on campus. The incident occurred amidst a large gathering of over 75,000 fans for a rivalry football game against Michigan State.

An alert sent via the ND Alert notification system informed students of the situation. "After gunfire in the Eddy Street Commons area, the suspected gunman was last seen on the south edge of campus," the alert stated. "Police are actively searching for the suspect."

The alert provided a description of the suspect as a Black male, heavy-set, wearing blue shorts, a black shirt, and one white shoe. It advised individuals inside the stadium to remain there and others to shelter in place.

Approximately thirty minutes later, a follow-up alert indicated that there had been no further incidents of violence. Investigations suggested the suspect had fled the campus area, and police investigations were ongoing.
