A handwritten note purportedly from Tyler Robinson to his trans partner, Lance Twiggs, was accidentally broadcast during a preliminary hearing on Thursday. The note appears to confess to the killing of Charlie Kirk.
"I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it. I don’t know if I will/have succeeded, but I had hoped to make it home to you," the note reads. Robinson, 23, allegedly hid the note for Twiggs to find after Kirk's death.
Twiggs, 22, provided video testimony stating that Robinson had set an auto-text to be sent if he did not return home.
District Judge Tony Graf intervened when the note appeared on the courtroom camera feed, asking if it was being broadcast and requesting it be taken down. Authorities had previously released the text of the letter to the media shortly after Robinson's arrest.
According to Twiggs' testimony, his relationship with Robinson began when they became roommates in St. George, Utah, approximately three hours from where Kirk was killed. Twiggs also claimed that Robinson sent him more casual text messages after the killing, referencing his grandfather's rifle and joking about engraved shell casings.
Erika Kirk, the victim's widow, has advocated for public broadcast of evidence in the case, aiming to counter speculation surrounding the death of the Turning Point USA founder.
The hearing is scheduled to conclude on Friday, after which Judge Graf will determine if the case against Robinson will proceed to trial. Robinson has not yet entered a plea and faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.
