North West Responds to 'Demonic' Accusations Over Goth Fashion
The 13-year-old, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, defended her personal style during a TikTok livestream.
North West, the 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has addressed criticism labeling her distinct fashion sense as 'demonic.' During a joint TikTok livestream with her mother, North urged followers to avoid judging her based on her clothing choices. "I'm not demonic guys, stop saying I'm demonic," she stated. "No, I'm not. Just because I like to dress this way, don't judge a book by its cover."
North suggested that misunderstandings about her style may stem from elements like black grills and piercings. "Yeah, I feel like people say that 'cause of the black grills and just, like, piercings and stuff," she explained, adding, "Yeah but I don't know why you guys should put that with demonic because I don't get that."
Kim Kardashian advised her daughter to disregard negative opinions. North also pointed to a white 'gothic Lolita outfit' worn during her first performance in Chicago as evidence against the 'demon stuff' narrative. "I was like, if I'm gonna do my first show ever, I gotta come like an angel, all white. 'Cause you guys know I'm not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus. That's how I came to show you guys I'm actually a light, not dark," she said.
Kardashian noted her surprise at North's intentional use of symbolism, stating, "I didn't even know that symbolism. I didn't know that that's why you wanted to wear white."
North also shared that she has desired piercings since childhood, recounting how she used to wear fake piercings even in pre-kindergarten. She asserted that her current style is not a result of her parents' divorce. "So you guys can't say, where did the style came, is this style from the divorce? No, queen," she said.
Fashion expert Rochelle White previously told The Daily Mail that North appears to draw inspiration from Gen Z trends, K-pop artists, her father's fashion legacy, and her aunt Kylie Jenner. White observed influences like Y2K fashion with a modern update, citing the popularity of the Goth-Glam look seen in media. "Think lots of neo-goth, corsets, ruffles and heavy-soled shoes as an example, which North has been seen rocking," White noted, adding that Kanye West's signature oversized styles likely also influence her. White also suggested that North's colorful hair choices could be a nod to Kylie Jenner.
According to White, North's distinctive style is likely a reflection of generational taste rather than a rebellion against the Kardashian aesthetic. "She is having fun with style and fashion in her own way, but pulling on everything that is around her, which I believe she should do for that age and also in fashion," White said. "She might not be in rebellion but being her own person, which everyone should let her be. She is no doubt trying to set herself apart from her mother Kim and her family but she still remains part of them with coordinated pieces."
