North West Defends Her Style, Denies Being 'Demonic'

Thirteen-year-old North West has pushed back against accusations that her fashion sense makes her appear "demonic." During a TikTok livestream with her mother, Kim Kardashian, West directly addressed the online criticism, stating, "I'm not demonic guys, stop saying I’m demonic. No, I’m not. Just because I like to dress this way, don’t judge a book by its cover."

Kardashian suggested that West's facial piercings and black grills might be contributing to the misunderstanding. However, North West countered, "I don’t know why you guys should put that with demonic because I don’t get that." She further elaborated that her choice to wear an all-white "gothic Lolita outfit" for her first performance at The Vic Theater in Chicago was intended to signify purity. "'Cause you guys know I’m not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus," she explained. "That’s how I came to show you guys I’m actually a light, not dark."

Kardashian expressed surprise at her daughter's deliberate symbolism, noting, "I didn't even know that symbolism. I didn't know that that's why you wanted to wear white." She reflected on how narratives can form around individuals that are contrary to their true selves.

North West's distinctive style has been a subject of discussion. She has been seen with multiple piercings on her face and hands, bright blue braids, and a preference for black clothing and heavy footwear. Kardashian revealed that her daughter has desired piercings from a young age, even using fake ones in pre-K. "So you guys can’t say, where did the style came, is this style from the divorce? No, queen," North stated, indicating her style predates any recent family shifts.

Fashion expert Rochelle White previously told the Daily Mail that North West's style likely draws inspiration from Gen Z trends, K-pop artists, her father Kanye West's fashion legacy, and her aunt Kylie Jenner. White noted influences such as Y2K aesthetics, neo-goth elements like corsets and heavy-soled shoes, and oversized styles associated with her father. According to White, Kylie Jenner's experimentation with colored hair may also have influenced North's own hair choices. White believes North's style is a generational taste and an expression of individuality rather than a rebellion against the Kardashian aesthetic, stating, "She is having fun with style and fashion in her own way, but pulling on everything that is around her."
