North Carolina political dynasty member launches congressional bid

Jamie Ager, a Democrat, is running for a seat in the U.S. Congress representing North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, continuing a multi-generational legacy of political involvement in his family.

Ager's family has deep roots in Western North Carolina politics. His maternal grandfather, James McClure Clarke, served as a congressman for the region. His paternal great-grandparents, First Cousin, and grandparents, were also involved in local and state politics.

Historically, some members of the family have engaged in intermarriage, including Ager's paternal great-grandparents, who were first cousins. This practice was noted in the family's lineage.

Ager, who operates a family farm in Western North Carolina with his wife Amy, is now seeking to represent a district that has traditionally seen close elections. The current representative for North Carolina's 11th Congressional District is Republican Chuck Edwards.
