A North Carolina doctor has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly firing into a Jeep during an interstate road rage incident, wounding two sisters. Richard Thomas Arriviello, 61, of Charlotte, was taken into custody Tuesday following the Aug. 22 incident on Interstate 77, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities reported that Arriviello, driving a Mercedes-Benz, fired into the Jeep around 8:50 a.m. approximately three miles north of the North Carolina-Virginia state line. The two sisters, aged 12 and 20, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to their legs and were airlifted to a hospital.

Arriviello reportedly fled the scene in his vehicle, but state troopers located and stopped the Mercedes-Benz about 15 miles away, leading to his arrest. He faces charges including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, maliciously causing bodily harm with intent to maim, and using a firearm while committing a felony.

He is currently being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail. Arriviello is scheduled to appear in court on September 29. Virginia State Police have not released information regarding the catalyst for the alleged road rage encounter or whether a firearm was recovered from Arriviello's vehicle. The driver of the Jeep was cited for reckless driving, though their identity has not been disclosed.

North Carolina Medical Board records indicate Arriviello has been licensed as an emergency medicine physician since 2010 and has no public disciplinary actions on file. He is listed as the owner of Family Urgent Care in Monroe, North Carolina. Aerial view of downtown Charlotte skyline under clear skies.
