A North Carolina couple, Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, are dead in Ohio following a high-speed police chase that concluded a manhunt for their alleged involvement in a deadly shooting. Authorities are investigating their deaths as a possible double-suicide.
The pursuit ended Friday near Athens, Ohio, after Moore, who was driving, veered her car off the road into a ditch to evade a spike strip deployed by law enforcement. Both Moore and Armstrong were found deceased inside the vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident began Thursday morning at a residence in Gastonia, North Carolina, where officers responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered four individuals. Victoria “Heather” Moore, 50, and Josiah Bumgardner, 38, were pronounced dead at the scene. Camryn Moore was identified as Victoria Moore’s daughter, and Josiah Bumgardner was identified as Camryn Moore’s uncle. Two other individuals sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where they remain in critical but stable condition.
North Carolina authorities had issued arrest warrants for Moore and Armstrong, charging them with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. The couple fled the Gastonia residence immediately after the incident, leading law enforcement across state lines before the fatal chase in Ohio.
