Norte Fire Explodes in Orange County, Forcing Evacuations Amidst Strong Winds
The wind-fueled blaze grew rapidly, threatening structures and prompting emergency responses.
A fast-moving wildfire, dubbed the Norte Fire, erupted in Orange County on Friday, rapidly expanding and forcing evacuation orders as it threatened structures. The blaze began around 11:30 a.m. in the Portico Del Norte area and quickly grew to at least 50 acres within minutes, according to the Orange County Fire Authority and CalFire.
Fueled by heat, dry conditions, and strong Santa Ana winds, the fire's size continued to increase. By early afternoon, it had grown to approximately 250 acres. Firefighters and aerial support were actively engaged in efforts to contain its spread. The presence of smoke from the fire led the Capistrano Unified School District to advise students to remain indoors.
Red Flag Warnings remained in effect across Southern California, indicating critical fire weather conditions, with strong winds posing a significant challenge to firefighting efforts.
