Norris Apologizes for Ban Comments Directed at Colapinto

Lando Norris has apologized to fellow Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto for suggesting the Argentine should be banned following an accident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The incident occurred during a restart after a safety car period when Colapinto locked up and slid into his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly, who then collided with Norris, resulting in the retirement of all three drivers.

Following the race, Norris, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, had stated that Colapinto should receive a ban, describing the situation as "quite simple." However, Norris later took to Instagram to express his regret for the comments made.

"Tough weekend overall in Baku and of course a disappointing and early end to the race," Norris wrote on Instagram. "After the race, I sent Franco a message apologising for the comments I made that I simply should not have said.

"I know better and emotions were running high but that is not an excuse, it was wrong of me. I've made mistakes of my own over the years and I know this is very much a part of racing and fighting on the limit."

Norris confirmed that he and Colapinto have reached a mutual understanding and remain on good terms, both looking forward to the upcoming race weekend.

During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Colapinto received a 10-second penalty for the incident. As he had already retired from the race, this penalty has been converted into a five-place grid drop, which he is scheduled to serve at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
