Colin Sutton, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk, is facing criticism from local politicians regarding his planned 127-date theatre tour. Critics argue that such an extensive schedule could detract from his responsibilities to the Norfolk public.
South Norfolk MP Goldsborough stated that if Sutton wishes to pursue a celebrity career, it should not come at the expense of his primary role. Matthew Taylor, a Conservative county councillor and runner-up in the recent PCC election, expressed shock at the tour plans. Taylor emphasized the importance of the commissioner being visible and actively involved in supporting the public, especially during major incidents, rather than being absent.
A spokesperson for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk has assured that Sutton's theatre activities will be conducted in his private capacity and during his own time. The office stated that he will remain available and contactable for official duties and that appropriate arrangements are in place to ensure no adverse impact on his responsibilities.
Despite these assurances, concerns remain among some local representatives about the commissioner's commitment to his role. Sutton is scheduled to launch a public consultation on policing priorities for Norfolk in the coming week.
