Nor'easter Weakens, Leaves One Dead After Northeast Battering
The storm, which caused significant impacts across the Northeast, is now weakening and moving northeast.
A deadly nor'easter that battered the Northeast has begun to weaken, with its impacts diminishing on Monday. The storm claimed at least one life, identified by the New York Police Department as Leighton Brown, a 56-year-old employee of the New York City Housing Authority. He died in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon after being struck by a falling tree.
The storm is currently drifting northeast from Long Island, New York, towards Massachusetts, and is forecast to move into the Gulf of Maine by Tuesday. Light rain continues to affect parts of New England as the system winds down.
Dry conditions are expected in New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey by mid-to-late afternoon on Monday. By Tuesday morning, Boston is also forecast to be clear, with only a few lingering light showers anticipated for Maine.
Coastal flood alerts remain in effect from the Delmarva Peninsula through coastal Massachusetts. While less severe than over the weekend, high tides on Monday and Tuesday mornings may still bring minor to moderate coastal flooding. A flood watch is in effect for eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where an additional 1.5 inches of rain is possible, potentially causing some urban flooding due to saturated soils.
High surf, with waves reaching up to 12 feet, is expected from coastal Massachusetts through coastal Maine on Monday. All wind advisories have been canceled, though gusts of 20 to 30 mph are possible from New Jersey to Maine.
