Noel Gallagher Expresses Shock Over Man City's Financial Charges Verdict

Oasis superstar and Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has expressed his surprise and dismay following the verdict that found his club guilty on the vast majority of their 115 financial charges.

Gallagher, a prominent supporter of the club alongside his brother Liam, stated his shock on the "Let Me Talk" podcast. "A little surprised because only that the club has assured us all along that they would vehemently deny any of these charges," he said. "So it was a bit of a shock to find out we've been found guilty of all but one but really overall quite sad really, sad for the fans and for the players."

The Premier League accused Manchester City of widespread financial rule breaches over a period of sustained success. An independent panel concluded its hearing in 2024, finding the club guilty on most of the charges, which relate to financial regulations.

The initial offenses are reported to span from the 2009-10 season to the 2017-18 campaign, with further charges concerning failure to comply with the investigation from December 2018 to February 2023.

Gallagher emphasized the perspective of the fans, stating, "Our focus as fans is always on the pitch and we know what we saw: they won it on the pitch. Whatever goes on in the boardroom it's nothing to do with the supporters or the players, the players won the game and won that (2011-12) title on the pitch."

He added, "Whether some of those players should have been there or not, that's nothing to do with the fans. We were there, we know what we saw. Does it taint it? I suppose in the eyes of everybody else in England it would but I know what I saw and I know what I felt."

Manchester City is expected to appeal the decision. The potential punishments remain unclear, though the possibility of relegation has been raised. Some supporters have called for the club to be stripped of trophies won during the period in question.
