Noddy Holder Appears Healthy Years After Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Slade frontman Noddy Holder, 80, appeared healthy and in good spirits at a charity event on Saturday, more than six years after he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given only six months to live. Holder attended The Trauma Research charity ball in Manchester alongside his wife, Suzan.

Holder revealed his battle with throat cancer in October 2023, having kept the diagnosis a secret for years. He underwent a new form of chemotherapy in Manchester that has helped manage his condition. Speaking to Sky News at the time of his announcement, Holder stated that doctors were "still keeping a check on him" and that he had "lasted the course" of his prognosis.

He described the period of his diagnosis as "touch and go," during which he lost all his hair and dropped to around eight stone. A scan he had the week prior to his announcement indicated that his condition was stable, a sentiment he hoped would continue.

Suzan Holder shared details of her husband's secret health battle in an emotional piece for Great British Life. She recounted receiving the devastating news five years prior that he had esophageal cancer and had only six months to live. The couple chose to cope by "hunkering down, sticking together and doing everything we could to survive it," confiding only in immediate close family and friends.

Despite the grim prognosis, Suzan noted that Holder maintained a positive outlook. He received treatment at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, where he responded well to a groundbreaking chemotherapy regimen. While acknowledging that doctors avoid the word "cure," she expressed relief that five years later, he was "feeling good and looking great."

Noddy Holder and Suzan married in 2004. Holder had two daughters, Jessica and Charisse, from his previous marriage to Leandra Russell, which ended in divorce in 1984. They also have a son named Django.

Slade, known for hits like "Merry Xmas Everybody," achieved six UK Number One singles. Holder is no longer part of the band, though founding member Dave Hill continues to perform with a current lineup. This year marks 35 years since the original lineup of Slade performed together before their split in 1991.
