The official cause of death for Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old sushi chef at Nobu Malibu, has been determined to be multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office. Uchimiya was killed early Saturday morning when his parked car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu was struck by a Range Rover SUV driven by a 16-year-old.
The medical examiner classified the manner of death as an accident. As of Sunday, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
Witnesses have described a pattern of dangerous driving along the stretch of PCH near Nobu Malibu. Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner, a former Malibu mayor and surf shop owner, stated that he frequently observes risky behavior from drivers in the area, including when they exit parked vehicles without checking their mirrors. Wagner noted that such actions have led to collisions with cyclists and car doors.
The crash occurred while Uchimiya was reportedly sleeping inside his vehicle. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
