Nobel Prize in Physics To Be Announced Tuesday
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will reveal the laureates for this year's physics prize in Stockholm.
STOCKHOLM – The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is set to announce the recipients of this year's Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday in Stockholm.
Last year, the prize in physics was awarded to three scientists for their research into the behavior of subatomic particles. Their work on quantum tunneling, which explained the phenomena enabling MRI machines, also laid the foundation for advancements in mobile phones and computers.
The announcements for this year's Nobel Prizes began Monday with the recognition of three scientists for their work on a light-based tool used to study the brain. The award for chemistry will be announced on Wednesday, followed by the literature prize on Thursday. The peace prize is scheduled for Friday, and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced on Oct. 12.
Each prize this year carries an award of 12 million Swedish kronor, approximately $1.2 million, regardless of whether the recipient is an individual, a small group, or an organization.
