Nobel Prize in Chemistry Set to Be Awarded
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce the recipients of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry on Wednesday.
STOCKHOLM -- The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will award the Nobel Prize in chemistry on Wednesday in Stockholm.
Last year's Nobel Prize in chemistry recognized scientists for their development of molecular structures capable of trapping large amounts of gas. This research laid the groundwork for potential methods to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere or extract moisture from arid environments.
The awarding of the chemistry prize follows the announcements of other Nobel Prizes this week. The Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded Monday to three scientists for their work on a tool that uses light to help understand brain function. The physics prize announced Tuesday honored a scientist's research into a rare group of neutrinos.
The literature prize is scheduled for Thursday, and the peace prize will be awarded on Friday. The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced next Monday.
Each Nobel Prize winner this year will receive 12 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately $1.2 million, regardless of whether the award is given to an individual, a small group, or an organization.
