No Explosives Found in Vehicles Near US Air Base in England; Five Men Released on Bail

Counter-terrorism police have stated that searches of three vehicles near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, revealed a quantity of petrol but no explosive devices. The development comes after five British men, all in their 20s, were arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of explosives offenses and later terrorism offenses.

These individuals were subsequently released on bail the following day. Police described this release as an "investigative decision" that was "grounded in experience and strategy."

The alert was triggered by a member of the public reporting several vehicles acting suspiciously in close proximity to the base, which is operated by the U.S. military. Laurence Taylor, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, indicated that the police response was based on "a range of information."

Authorities expressed hope that the investigative scenes could be cleared by Wednesday. The arrests and subsequent security measures had raised concerns, particularly following a statement from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who suggested a "foreign actor" might have been involved. However, police have not confirmed any foreign involvement.
