No Explosives Found in Vans Near RAF Base; Petrol Recovered

Counter terrorism police have confirmed that no improvised explosive devices were found in three vans near the Royal Air Force (RAF) base at Fairford, Gloucestershire. However, a quantity of petrol was recovered from the vehicles.

The update came from Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, Head of National Counter Terrorism Policing in the UK, who stated that the vehicles had undergone extensive examination with the support of military assets and forensic experts.

Five suspects, all men aged between 23 and 25, were initially detained in the early hours of Sunday morning outside the base. They were subsequently bailed within 36 hours of their detention. Assistant Commissioner Taylor acknowledged the surprise this decision may have caused but emphasized that it was an investigative choice based on experience and careful consideration of policing powers, prioritizing public safety.
