A grand jury has determined that no criminal charges are warranted in the death of Nolan Wells, according to a report released by the Jackson County Grand Jury.
The 18-year-old vanished on July 4th while celebrating with friends off the Gulf Coast. His body was recovered two days later in the waters near Horn Island.
The grand jury's report states that the "position of, condition of, time of discovery, and location" of Wells' body are "consistent with drowning." Authorities had previously indicated a belief that Wells drowned, pending the grand jury's final review of all case materials, including the state medical examiner's autopsy report, to ascertain if a crime was involved.
