New Jersey Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. is scheduled to return to Congress on June 30, following an absence of several months due to an unspecified medical issue. A political consultant for the congressman confirmed the return date on Thursday.

Kean, who represents a competitive district, has missed more than 100 House votes since his last recorded vote on March 5. His absence had become a subject of speculation, particularly given the upcoming midterm elections.

"Congressman Kean is eager to return to in person work on June 30 and resume a full schedule," said Harrison Neely, Kean's political consultant, in a text message. "He plans to be fully transparent regarding the nature of his health issue and you should expect to hear from him in person June 30th."

Kean's office has previously stated that he is still campaigning for reelection and is set to compete against Democratic Navy veteran Rebecca Bennett in November. The district, which has seen its seat change party hands in the last two midterm cycles, is considered a key battleground.

In April, Kean's social media accounts indicated he was dealing with a personal medical issue from which his doctors anticipated a full recovery. During Primary Day this month, President Donald Trump endorsed Kean's reelection bid. On the same day, Kean released a statement indicating his expectation to return to work within weeks.

Kean, whose family has a long history in public service, is a descendant of early American leaders and includes a former governor and congressman among his relatives.
