NJ Insurance Executive Kills Wife and Daughter, Then Himself

Authorities have identified an insurance executive as the individual who fatally shot his wife and daughter before taking his own life in their $1.75 million home in Montgomery Township, New Jersey. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the identities of the deceased as David Grodnick, 61, his wife Lora Grodnick, 62, and their daughter, Sloane Grodnick, 24.

Investigators determined that Lora and Sloane Grodnick died as a result of homicide, and David Grodnick died by suicide. The three individuals were discovered with gunshot wounds to the head within the residence on Wild Azalea Lane.

Law enforcement was first alerted to the situation on October 1st at approximately 2:59 p.m. following a request for a welfare check. Responding officers were unable to locate any occupants. The investigation continued until the following day, when officers gained entry to the home around 6 p.m. and discovered the bodies. Lora and Sloane were found in separate bedrooms, while David was found elsewhere in the house with a firearm. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

David Grodnick was a senior vice president and underwriting counsel for Land Services USA, a Philadelphia-based insurance agency specializing in commercial real estate transactions. He held degrees in business administration from the University of Miami and English from McDaniel College, where he participated in lacrosse. Sloane Grodnick, a graduate of The Hun School and the Savannah College of Art and Design, was reportedly pursuing a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The prosecutor's office stated that the investigation, which is ongoing, indicates the deaths were an isolated incident and that there are no current threats to the public. The family had relocated to Montgomery Township from Princeton and were members of the Bedens Brook Country Club and TPC Jasna Polana.
