NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill Lists Montclair Home for $3.5 Million

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill has listed her historic Montclair mansion for $3.49 million, nearly 16 years after purchasing it for $1.67 million. The listing comes after Sherrill and her family moved into Drumthwacket, the official governor’s residence in Princeton, earlier this year. She is the first New Jersey governor in more than two decades to reside full-time at the historic estate.

"We have loved our time in Montclair, and Essex County will always feel like home for us," Sherrill and her husband, First Gentleman Jason Hedberg, said in a joint statement. "This is where we raised our kids and built an amazing community that supported us through many milestones. Now, we’re so excited to be living in the People’s House at Drumthwacket and embracing Princeton as our new home."

The Montclair property, purchased in 2010, is a six-bedroom Victorian built in 1865. It sits on approximately 1.1 acres and features six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and one half-bathroom. The estate includes a covered front porch, a bluestone patio, landscaped gardens, weeping cherry trees, an outdoor hot tub, and a lighted multi-sport court. An attached three-car garage is also part of the property.

Inside, the home features high ceilings, intricate moldings, hardwood floors, large windows, and four fireplaces. The layout includes an open kitchen connected to a great room with a cupola, as well as formal living and dining rooms.

The annual property taxes for the Montclair home are approximately $66,642, according to the listing.

Katie Scandalios of Stanton Company is handling the sale. The couple raised their four children in the Montclair home.
