Nine Network has removed the radio show "The Long Weekend" from its 9Now and Stan streaming platforms, a move that follows the recent resignation of co-host Karl Stefanovic.
Stefanovic, 51, was slated to host the multi-platform program alongside veteran media personality Eddie McGuire, 61. However, the show has been quietly dropped from Nine's streaming services and is now only accessible on Gold FM, according to reports.
Only one episode of "The Long Weekend" remains available on Nine's platforms, an upload from June 26 where McGuire addressed Stefanovic's absence. Stefanovic appeared in only two episodes of the show before his departure.
Stefanovic resigned from Nine Network after a controversial interview with British far-right activist Tommy Robinson on his podcast, "The Karl Stefanovic Show." This decision marked a significant shift in his career after leaving the "Today" show and Channel Nine late last month.
McGuire confirmed last week that he would no longer be co-hosting "The Long Weekend" with Stefanovic. He sent well-wishes to his colleague, stating, "As extensively reported this week, my co-host and friend Karl Stefanovic will no longer be part of The Long Weekend show, as he dedicates the next phase of his amazingly successful career to his podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show. I wish Karl the best of luck as his storied and ever-colourful media journey continues."
"The Long Weekend," a three-hour Friday program broadcast across ARN's Gold radio network, saw Stefanovic participate in only two episodes. Sources indicated to the AFR that the decision to end the network's association with Stefanovic was made last month. His contract was reportedly worth approximately $200,000 for the remainder of the year.
McGuire will continue to host the radio show solo. Nine streaming and broadcast managing director Amanda Laing had previously stated that it "made perfect sense" for Nine stars to have their shows promoted on 9Now and Stan, a sentiment that appears to have changed following the fallout from Stefanovic's interview and subsequent resignation.
