Nine Florida High School Students Arrested for Brutal Attack on Peer

Nine teenagers, ranging in age from 14 to 18, have been arrested and charged in connection with a violent assault on a fellow student at Harmony High School in Saint Cloud, Florida. The attack occurred after the 17-year-old victim intervened when he witnessed a group of students throwing carrots at a girl in the school cafeteria.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the incident began during lunch on Monday, October 16, 2026. The victim, accompanied by his girlfriend, approached the group and asked them to stop their behavior, leading to a verbal altercation. Although the couple left the immediate area, the aggressors reportedly sought retribution after school hours.

Later that day, as the victim approached his car near the school campus, the nine students cornered him. Cellphone footage released by the sheriff's office captured the assault. The video shows Joandiel Gomez Ruiz, 16, throwing the first punch. The remaining eight students then joined in, repeatedly striking the victim in the face and head. The recording includes bystanders yelling encouragement to the attackers.

A female bystander eventually intervened, separating the group from the assaulted student, who was then seen wiping blood from his face. He was taken by his mother to the hospital, where he received 11 stitches for his injuries.

Investigators identified the nine suspects using the video evidence. School resource officers arrested the students on Wednesday while they were in class, with the cooperation of school staff. All nine face charges of felony aggravated battery and felony inciting a riot.

Two 18-year-olds, Quianelle Antonio Reyes-Cintron and Brian Alexander Ramirez, were booked into the Osceola County Jail. The other seven suspects, identified as 17-year-old Jimmy Yael Ortiz-Vazquez, 16-year-olds Byron Arriga-Cervantes, Joandiel Gomez-Ruiz, Keyshawn Roberts, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Alexander Rodriguez, along with an unnamed 14-year-old, were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon issued a statement condemning the attack. "Let me be completely clear to every student attending school in Osceola County: if you put your hands on another student, on or off campus, my deputies will arrest you," Blackmon stated. He added that the victim was brave for standing up for another student, while the attackers were "cowards."

Osceola School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff also released a statement, asserting that "Physical intimidation, threats, or acts of violence of any kind will not be tolerated in our schools or in our community, whether on or off campus. Such behavior is fundamentally inconsistent with the values of our school district and the standards of conduct we expect from every student. We take these matters seriously, and there must be accountability when those expectations are violated."
