Nine Dead in Pennsylvania Home Shooting, Including Children and Pregnant Woman
Suspected gunman barricaded himself and died from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after killing multiple victims.
Multiple people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were killed Friday night in a suspected murder-suicide at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Police responded to a shooting report around 5 p.m. on Perry Street. Officers found two women outside the residence with fatal gunshot wounds upon arrival, according to Erie News Now.
The suspected gunman, armed with a handgun, barricaded himself inside the home, leading to a standoff with a SWAT team. Video from the scene captured shots being fired from within the residence during the confrontation.
The shooter, whose identity has not been released, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities later entered the home and discovered multiple victims deceased throughout the residence.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the scene as one of the most difficult and heartbreaking encountered by the department's officers and investigators. "The loss of life is devastating and the circumstances that we are working through are deeply disturbing," Lorah stated. Erie News Now reported that nine people died in the incident.
Lorah confirmed the shooter's death and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. "Our hearts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected by this tragedy," he said.
The motive for the attack and the relationship between the gunman and the victims remain unknown. Police have not released further details out of respect for the victims.
