Nigella Lawson Praises Sydney Dining Scene During Visit

British food icon Nigella Lawson has lauded Sydney's culinary landscape during a recent visit, singling out the North Bondi institution Sean's for its exceptional Sunday lunch.

Lawson, a celebrated television host and cookbook author, expressed her admiration for the restaurant, which has been a fixture in Sydney for over three decades. "It's just a fact: there's no better Sydney Sunday than lunch at @seansbondi!" she declared on Instagram.

She detailed her meal, emphasizing the restaurant's commitment to fresh, seasonal Australian produce. The culinary journey began with a vibrant starter of asparagus, artichoke, and zucchini flower, complemented by buffalo mozzarella from Vannella Cheese and a basil dressing. Lawson described the dish as "just bursting with bright freshness."

Next, she savored a Nannygai fish tartare, served with kohlrabi, radish, cucumber, and ocean trout roe on a golden scallop-shaped pastry crust. This was followed by pappardelle pasta with rocket, broad beans, and goat's cheese, and a roast pork main course featuring crispy crackling, chicory greens, fennel, pickled cherries, and sweet potato.

However, it was the dessert that garnered particular acclaim. Lawson called the rhubarb and ginger tartlet "the best pudding of recent memory," praising its "zingily tart" rhubarb and "meltingly buttery and snappily crisp" pastry.

Beyond the food, Lawson also commended Sean Moran, the restaurant's owner and chef, calling him "a joymonger like no other."

Sean's, located on Campbell Parade in North Bondi, is known for its relaxed atmosphere, coastal setting, and home-style cooking. The intimate 45-seat restaurant has maintained its charm with eclectic decor and a menu that changes daily based on ingredient availability. The establishment prides itself on using ethically sourced seafood, poultry, and livestock.

This endorsement follows Lawson's previous praise for Sydney eateries during her May and June 2025 visit. At that time, she described a meal at Chippendale restaurant Ester as "the most wonderful meal of my life" and praised its chef, Mat Lindsay. She also visited Italian restaurant Fratelli Paradiso and Small's Deli, where she highlighted their signature Toto sandwich.

Lawson's most recent trip to Australia included headlining the 2026 Tamar Valley Writers Festival in Tasmania, themed "Feed the Soul," celebrating the connection between food, storytelling, and culture.
