Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, announced Tuesday that he is resigning as a Member of Parliament. Farage stated his decision is part of an ongoing investigation into his personal finances.
Despite stepping down, Farage declared his intention to seek re-election in the Eastern England constituency of Clacton. He framed the upcoming snap election as a contest between "the people versus the establishment."
"I’ve decided that the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions," Farage said during a televised address. He was first elected as Clacton's MP in July 2024. Reports from The Times of London also noted scrutiny over whether a convicted individual, George Cottrell, provided financing for security the year before Farage's election.
