Nigel Farage has resigned as the Member of Parliament for Clacton, stating that it is "only fair" for the electorate to judge his time in the role. The Reform UK leader's resignation was formally published following a BBC interview where he expressed uncertainty about his status as an MP.

Shortly after Farage's interview, Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed his resignation via social media. "If he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him," she wrote on X, referencing Farage's by-election rival, Count Binface.

Farage, when asked about his contributions to Clacton since becoming its MP, said he had done his "absolute best to put it on the map in terms of tourism and visits." He acknowledged the challenges of reaching the constituency but highlighted its "great beaches."

If re-elected, Farage pledged to prioritize addressing potholes and opposing local housing developments. "You give me a big vote and we'll continue our political revolution," he stated, warning that failure to do so would allow "the establishment" to continue working to "crush a genuine chance at political change."

The resignation opens the door for a potential by-election in Clacton. Laurence Fox, an actor and politician, announced his intention to stand against Farage, Count Binface, and Adham Alkhatip of the Forward Party.
