Nigel Farage jokes about deporting Meghan Markle if he becomes PM
Reform UK leader criticizes Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 'disgraceful behaviour' and says he feels 'sorry' for Prince Harry.
Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has joked that he might attempt to deport Meghan Markle if he were to become prime minister. Farage made the remarks while appearing on a podcast hosted by US political commentator Benny Johnson, criticizing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's conduct as an "absolute disgrace."
Farage stated that he felt a degree of sympathy for Prince Harry, suggesting the Duke had made a "bad life choice" and undergone a significant decline from his previous popularity. "The behaviour of Meghan, of Harry, has been an absolute disgrace," Farage said. "I sort of almost now begin to feel a bit sorry for Harry, because it's the classic tale of the weak man and the strong woman who uses her wiles and leads him."
He recalled Prince Harry's past popularity, referencing his service in Afghanistan and his perceived charisma, stating that Harry "was the most popular royal for 100 years, people loved him." Farage added, "There he is now, with Meghan. I think he's made a bad life choice."
During the podcast, Johnson humorously suggested that deporting Meghan Markle back to America would be "one of the greatest things England has done since giving us our independence." Farage responded with laughter, joking, "You might get her back. You might get her back if I'm in charge."
The conversation also touched upon other public figures, with Johnson referencing Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi splitting time between the UK and the US. Farage quipped, "You gave us woke, you're getting Ellen back alright, it's a pretty fair trade."
This is not the first time Farage has been critical of the Sussexes. In 2022, he accused them of using their Netflix documentary to imply that Brexit-era politics contributed to racism directed at Meghan, calling their actions "despicable." He has also previously described Meghan as "self-serving" and accused her of "wrecking the Royal Family."
In February 2025, former US President Donald Trump, an ally of Farage, dismissed the idea of deporting Prince Harry from America, despite allegations of drug use in the Duke's memoir potentially affecting his visa status. Trump stated at the time, "I'll leave him alone," adding, "He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible."
Meghan Markle had previously labeled Trump "divisive" and a "misogynist," but neither she nor Prince Harry have publicly commented on Farage. The couple stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and subsequently moved to the United States. Their reasons for relocating to the UK from California in August remain unexplained.
