MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace stated that the alleged corruption surrounding former President Donald Trump is beginning to alienate even some of his prominent supporters, including former Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
Wallace's remarks came in response to Kelly's recent comments on Sky News Australia, where she expressed disappointment in Trump and his family for allegedly profiting from the presidency. Kelly drew a comparison between this and the alleged actions of President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.
"There was never even a wild accusation about Hunter Biden that comes close to approximating what Trump and his family are doing," Wallace said during a segment on "Deadline: White House." She added, "It is an interesting political moment where the MAGA base just cannot launder any more of Trump’s brazen corruption."
Kelly, a long-time Trump supporter, has previously voiced criticism regarding his actions, including his policy toward Iran and his rhetoric. She stated on July 1, "I don’t feel great about our leaders, I’m not going to lie. I’m disappointed with some aspects of the Trump presidency, for sure, like the Iran war. That’s No. 1. It’s so grifty, I’m not going to lie. The Trump family is grifty."
Kelly further elaborated on her concerns, saying, "There’s been story after story about all the money that his sons are making off of the government, these government contracts they’re getting. I can’t stand that stuff … I didn’t like it when Hunter Biden was doing it and I don’t like it when the Trumps are doing it."
Reports indicate that Trump has discussed the billions he has reportedly "raised" since his 2024 reelection. He has also been involved in cryptocurrency ventures and accepted a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar prior to the U.S. granting the nation a defense guarantee.
According to a Bloomberg report in April, Trump's sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., were awarded a contract by the U.S. Air Force to supply drone interceptors through their partial ownership of a defense technology company.
Wallace suggested that figures like Kelly are now attempting to realign themselves with voters who are concerned about Trump's alleged corruption and its impact on leadership and national security.
"They appear to want to align themselves with voters in the center and on the left who have a big problem with the Trump family’s egregious corruption and grift, all at the expense of competent leadership and U.S. national security," Wallace commented.
Wallace also referenced an article from The Free Press, founded by Bari Weiss, to highlight the growing frustration among Trump supporters regarding his conduct. The article, titled "Trump’s Art of the Self-Deal," reportedly stated that "there is no modern parallel for the scale and shamelessness with which Trump has enriched himself while in power."
