Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi Announces Cancer-Free Status Post-Hysterectomy

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, 38, has announced she is cancer-free after undergoing a hysterectomy to treat stage 1 cervical cancer. The reality television personality shared her news seven months after her diagnosis, stating she is "on the other side" and "finally starting to feel better."

Polizzi revealed that she has "stage 1 cervical cancer" in February and underwent the procedure to remove her cervix and uterus. She opted for an open-abdominal hysterectomy over a laparoscopic approach to ensure all cancer was removed. "They got everything out," Polizzi told People magazine, expressing relief and happiness following the successful surgery.

While she is recovering and advised to take it easy, Polizzi emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups. "I avoided getting my pap smear for a long time," she admitted, highlighting that her diagnosis came after she finally went to the doctor. "And once I finally went to the doctors, I feel like it's just been week after week of doing a procedure, then another procedure, and then a hysterectomy."

Polizzi shared that her doctors have informed her of a possibility for the cancer to return, necessitating routine pap smears every three months. In response, she is focusing on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including better eating habits and exercise, and staying on top of her medical appointments. "I just want my body to be as healthy as it can be," she stated.

She also noted the support she received from her social media community. "In the beginning, I felt so alone," Polizzi recalled. "I had no idea what was gonna happen. I didn't know anybody going through cervical cancer." She expressed gratitude for the platform that speaking out provided, allowing her to connect with and support other women facing similar health challenges.

Polizzi, a mother of three, received her diagnosis after a biopsy. Doctors had presented options including chemotherapy, radiation, or a hysterectomy. She decided on the hysterectomy, retaining her ovaries while undergoing the removal of her cervix and uterus, with the potential removal of lymph nodes if the cancer had spread.
