Nicole Eggert Recounts Financial Hardship During Cancer Battle
The 'Baywatch' star details the significant financial strain and lost income faced while undergoing treatment for stage 2 breast cancer.
Nicole Eggert, known for her role in "Baywatch," has shared the profound financial impact of her battle with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer. Diagnosed in December 2023, Eggert recently announced she has achieved no evidence of disease, but the financial repercussions of her treatment continue to resonate.
As a single parent, Eggert explained that the financial aspect of fighting cancer is often overlooked. She described the immense stress of facing mounting bills while unable to work. "I'm a 100% single parent," Eggert stated. "I do have a teenager still at home... I have that responsibility, and then I have all the household and homemaker, head of household responsibilities and then the cost of what this diagnosis brings, which is a lot."
Eggert noted that her career in entertainment made it impossible to maintain an income during treatment, which required frequent hospital visits. "In my line of work, I couldn't commit to being on any kind of production because I'm gonna be in treatment and in and out of treatment... three-to-five at least days a week," she said. "So, it's not like it's work from home kind of work."
She recalled the realization that her income would cease, while household expenses and her daughter's needs remained. "I had to completely come to the realization that I wasn't gonna have income, and yet the bills don't stop, and the teenagers still need their things, and life needs their things and the car still needs the gas, and you know, all of it."
Initially, the overwhelming medical reality made financial concerns seem less significant. "It's sort of like, well, 'Ah, I'm alive.' Then, you know, if you have any kind of financial strain, it's like, 'Well, at least you're alive to deal with it,'" Eggert said. "At least you are alive where you can go out and fix it."
Eggert underwent her first mastectomy shortly after her diagnosis in December 2023, having initially been advised by doctors to remove only one breast to expedite treatment and minimize the impact on her immune system. A subsequent surgery in August 2025 involved the removal of her other breast and reconstruction.
She emphasized the importance of community support and open conversations surrounding cancer. "You really have to find your community, and you really have to be OK with asking for help or asking other people how they do it, and getting tips and tricks and just all the information you can get," she said. Eggert recently partnered with Novartis and shared her experiences on the Voices of MORE podcast, highlighting the need for women to feel comfortable discussing their cancer journeys.
Looking ahead, Eggert expressed excitement about re-entering the workforce and enjoying life with a renewed sense of purpose and fearlessness. "I also am really looking forward to stepping back into life not having to be in treatment or in the treatment facility with this newfound power and fearlessness that I have, and this new appreciation for life that I have, and It's like this second chance at life," she stated.
