Former HGTV star Nicole Curtis has publicly addressed a new lawsuit filed against her and her business, Detroit Renovations LLC, by the City of Detroit. The lawsuit concerns a long-neglected house owned by Curtis's company since 2021, which the city deems unsafe and a public nuisance.

Curtis took to Facebook to state her position on the matter, asserting her commitment to saving historic homes. She wrote, "I save old houses, but it's not a job - it's one of my passions." She added that she has "two full crews starting at 7am tomorrow in Detroit" to work on the property. Curtis stated her goal is "not out to make a buck, not out to make a name for myself, not out to rob and pillage... just out to save historic homes from being demolished and/or ruined by flippers."

According to the lawsuit, the property has remained a danger to the surrounding community despite a 2021 order mandating renovations. The city alleges that necessary repairs were not made, leading to ongoing code violations, including structural decay and accumulated garbage. The City of Detroit is seeking to have the home repaired and violation fines paid.

This legal action is separate from the circumstances that led to the cancellation of her show, "Rehab Addict," over a racial slur. Curtis was previously removed from screens after a video surfaced of her using the N-word. Earlier this year, she claimed the use of the slur was a "slip of the tongue" during filming, attributing it to her use of similar-sounding phrases.

In her social media post, Curtis thanked her followers for their continued support, emphasizing her dedication to her work and her role as a mother. She described her legacy as being "a great mom that loved rather than 'that chick who had that show.'"
