Nicole Curtis Reflects on 'Rehab Addict' Cancellation on Show's Anniversary
The former HGTV host shared an emotional post on Instagram marking 16 years since her show's debut, referencing its abrupt end due to a racial slur.
Former HGTV personality Nicole Curtis posted an emotional statement on Instagram over the weekend, reflecting on the anniversary of her show "Rehab Addict" and its subsequent cancellation. The post came sixteen years after the show first aired on October 10, 2010.
Curtis, 50, shared a compilation video featuring clips from her time on the show, with overlaid text stating, "Years of my life gone." In the caption, she expressed that the anniversary was difficult, noting the significant portion of her life dedicated to the series. She recalled missing her oldest son's school rocket launch in the show's first year because network demands required her to shoot promotional material, an event she said she harbors "some hate" for.
"Rehab Addict" initially premiered on the DIY Network before moving to HGTV in 2014, where it gained wider viewership. The show was removed from HGTV platforms in February 2026 after a clip surfaced showing Curtis using a racial slur during filming in 2022. The footage, published by Radar, captured Curtis saying, "Oh, fart n*****," amidst what she later described as a slip of the tongue.
The controversy coincided with the airing of two new episodes of "Rehab Addict" on February 11, shortly before the network dropped the series. All episodes were subsequently removed from HGTV's platforms.
In the aftermath of the incident, Curtis attributed the remark to a verbal tic, explaining on "The Breakfast Club" radio show that she frequently used similar-sounding phrases like "fart digger" and "fart knocker," which led to the on-camera slip.
Earlier this year, Curtis and her business, Detroit Renovations LLC, were also named in a lawsuit by the City of Detroit concerning a long-neglected house owned by her company since 2021, which the city deemed unsafe. Curtis addressed this lawsuit on Facebook, stating her passion for saving old houses and her priority as being a mother, rather than defined by her television career. She also alluded to facing various adversities throughout her career, including lawsuits, blackmail, and betrayal from trusted individuals, which she said ultimately strengthened her resolve.
