The driveway of a coastal mansion in Malibu, California, owned by actor Nicolas Cage, collapsed Tuesday morning, creating a large hole in front of the residence. The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. and resulted in a gas leak, leading to a response from authorities and the utility company SoCalGas.
SoCalGas reported that the gas leak was under control several hours after its discovery. As a precautionary measure against coastal erosion, the company temporarily shut off natural gas services for an 85-foot section of the street. Representatives for Cage did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Property records indicate the home was sold in 2024, with the prior owner identifying Cage as the buyer at the time of sale.
The mansion had previously sustained damage during a coastal flooding advisory related to the lingering effects of Hurricane Marie. Although Marie did not make landfall, it produced rain and generated significant waves along the Southern California coast.
City officials stated that entry to five homes on the street was prohibited on Tuesday. The private neighborhood is situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway. Nicolas Cage, 62, recently appeared in the Amazon series “Spider-Noir” and is slated to portray John Madden in an upcoming biographical film. He has appeared in over 100 films and received an Oscar for his role in “Leaving Las Vegas.”
